Belgian Lambert Chardome

Post by Steen Ammentorp » 10 Jul 2008 12:46

I am interested in information about this Belgian general: Lambert Chardome, born 1887, and his connection to Legion Wallonie plus his fate after his arrest in 1945.

I have done some searching but only found little such as:

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

In 1944, Leon Degrelle know that with his low rank (Stubaf), the SS FHA don't give him the post of division commander. So for not having a german, he try to foung a belgian colonel or general to rally and taking such post. Genaral Chardome, war prisonner from 1940 in a Oflag, agree first. His rally was announced in the press. He even meet Gottlob Berger but after few days in his family in Belgium, he decided to refuse and went back to his Oflag. In account of his "rally" he was convicted to 15 years of imprisonment.

Here a press article on his rally. The title is "General Major Chardome rally the SS Division Wallonie".

According to the researcher Willem Meyers, colonel Emiel Van Coppenolle, head of the Belgian Police- and Gendarmerie-Forces and former army officer was offered the function of commander of the SS-Division Langemarck and the promotion to SS-Brigadeführer by Ernst Kaltenbrunner, but he refused the offer.
