All, I read was from Alexander Dallin's "German Rule in Russia 1941-1945" about Olzscha and the same text was used from this book into Antonio Munoz's "Forgotten Legions". It was just stated Olzscha co-authored a book about Turkistan and was one of the key factors to get the Turkistan Legion in effect. I later read on the Lexion about him retaining a rank of Hauptsturmfuhrer and commander of the Ostturkischer Waffenverband der SS but that is all just very vague info on this man.

OK so he was in SS-HA Amtsgruppe D - the Germanic Guidance Office, a department that basically organized various nationalities to serve in the Waffen-SS.

He's briefly mentioned receiving an honorary (as opposed to an actual) command of a military formation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichskomm ... t_Kaukasus

He apparently co-authored the book TURKESTAN: DIE POLITISCH-HISTORIEN UND
WIRTSCHAFTLICHEN PROBLEME ZENTRALASIENS
(Leipzig, 1942) with
Georg Cleinow. (see http://www.angelfire.com/on/paksoy/basmachi.html and http://openlibrary.org/b/OL14882520M/Tu ... tralasiens)

The book The Study of Religion and the Training of Muslim Clergy in Europe (see http://books.google.com/books?id=FGN2i4 ... ha&f=false) mentions the following:
"......The present contribution takes into special consideration the unpublished declaration drafted immediately after the war by Dr. Reiner Olzscha, Obersturmbannfuhrer of the SS, who in the beginning of 1944 was put in charge of the so-called "Work Association Turkestan" (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Turkestan), a think-tank of Turcologists and other orientalists created by the SS with the task of scientifically preparing the revolutionizing of the Turkic peoples against the Soviet Union.
It sounds like he was one of many German intellectuals who ended up in the SS as a "eastern expert" who was supposed to use his knowledge in helping the SS with its geopolitical and manpower recruiting schemes.
