Carl Holter, the old fighter

Post by Arto O » 11 Feb 2012 04:20

Hi,
From finnish Signal magazine, june 1943: The original text, as I can translate it:
A farmer, poet and soldier
"One could expect that an artist after spending 30 years in theater stages and achieving a repution of a great dramaturg and artist abroad, should start to spend peaceful years. Carl Holter, popular and respected norwegian actor of Peer Gynt, thinks different. He retired from Oslo, builded a hut on norwegian mountains, and lived from hunting and fishing. From his experiences in the mountains, born the novel "visitor from the mountains" (if translated correctly). ........ When the war started 57 years old poet was on his father´s farm. When German started the fight against Soviet Union, Holter presented himself as a volunteer to SS troops. He was rejected three times for his old age. But on the fourth time he was accepted and finally the poet got to the front. Now Holter fights together with his younger countrymen. In the future he is going to write a book about great experiences of war as an example and call for future generations.
