Name of Armourer 3.KP SS Frw. Legion Flandern
I am looking to find out the name of the German born (Flensburg/Leck) Armourer of 3.kp SS Frw. Legion Flandern ? He would be an SS Hauptscharführer as of 1941. If anyone knows which NARA files cover the formation period I would be interested to know which ones ?
Thanks for checking.
Gerard

What do you mean with Armourer? 3. Kp was infanterie.
I have an Oscha. Johannson Karsten
15.08.1912 - Leck (D)
27.01.1942 - Sapolje
4./SS Freiw. Leg. "Flandern"

Any information about Flemisch in German service (Waffen SS, OT, NSKK, Kriegsmarine, DRK, ...) during WWII is welcome.

Thanks for the reply & info !
I am going through photographs in an album at a preliminary stage. This man is wearing an ss skill patch for an 'armourer' (with mg42 crossed with what looks to be k98). He wears the frw.legion flandern cuff title but no yellow lion patch, in its place instead is the armourer patch. I had thought he was the unit armourer based on that.
The 3.kp part is a guess on being photographed repeatedly beside a building with '3. Kom...' writren on the side. This man survived the war and later served in (I believe) luftwaffe at Leck. He is either from Leck or Flensburg, more likely Flensburg.

The 4th Kp were heavy machine gun and mortars so they were often attached to the infanterie Kp 1, 2 or 3. That could be an explanation.
There is also a Leck in Schleswig-Hollstein.

Hello Wim, thanks for the information.
Leck in Schleswig Holstein is the location in question. This album is connected to Leck and to Flensburg. I believe the man the album is from was born in Flensburg and later lived in Leck.
Here is a photo for reference showing the armourers insignia and the Legion Flandern cufftitle as well as the '3.Kom .... ' 3.Kompanie reference.
One of the licence plates shown is SS-82127 which my reference shows as belonging to :
5.SS-T. Standarte 82001-83000
(source http://www.kennzeichengeschichte.de)
which doesn't shed much light on the locations !
Regards,
Gerard

Re: Name of Armourer 3.KP SS Frw. Legion Flandern
A point to note about this album is that the main man (photographed above in cufftitle) had a tatoo on his forearm.
Show here removed postwar :
An SS Colleague of his also had a similar wartime tatoo on his forearm.
It seems unusual (to my experience) that 2 SS men in the same unit both had similar forearm tatoos. I am wondering if this could be related to the unit formation ?
If anyone can recognise the non-removed tatoo from the wartime photograph I'd be interested to hear. The removed one seems to be in the shape of a cross as you'd se on a Pour le Merite/KVK or EK. This man also won EK2 and KVK1 so could be related to that.
Thanks for checking.

Than i think it is Waffenwart Otto Johannson. I don't have anymore info about him just this foto. But mayby related to Karsten.
If you give me your email adress (through PM) i can sent you the picture.
