Re: Indian Legion 1942-1945 photos
Hi Guys,
Is there any other such minor, barely committed, foreign formation that has so many photos of it?
Does anyone know why so many photos of the Indian Legion have come down to us? I doubt any British Indian Army unit of similar size is so well covered.
Did their propaganda value play a role in the plethora of images?
Cheers,
Sid.

I was lucky enough to obtain the photo albums of three German Officers. These contained a great amount. Also they got photos from ex members. I also got award citations and the Azad Hind star awarded to one of them.

Hi Warlord,
Are you aware of the Liechtenstein connection at the end of the war and some photos of INA troops taken, I think, through the border fence?
Cheers,
Sid.

No I was not, have you any you could post? Also have the extremely rare "Orders Book" - Militarworterbuck - in 3 languages. It has 228 pages. This is the only known copy as I believe.

Hi Warlord,
Unfortunately I don't have facility to post photos here.
However, I will look out the source for you, if you can wait a few days.
The Order Book is a brilliant find.
Is the Order Book in Urdu? If so, that is inherited from the British Indian Army, where Urdu was the lingua franca. My father, who was in 6th Rajputs at the time, had to learn it. He used to embarrass us kids in later decades by trying to order food in Indian restaurants in the UK in Urdu, when all the proprietors spoke Bengali!
Cheers,
Sid.
P.S. The only word I can recognize is "dushman" (enemy), so it probably is Urdu.
Coincidentally, in one WWI song of pre-war British Army in India origin, ("I want to go home") the original word "dushman", used for the opposition on the North West Frontier, is replaced by the rhyming word "Alleyman" (a corruption of Allemand, the French word for German): "Where the Alleyman/dushman can't get at me".

Re: Indian Legion 1942-1945 photos
Hi Warlord,
The photo of Indian troops on the Liechetenstein border in early May 1945 is on p.490 of Kriegzeit, Band 2, by Peter Zeiger (Zurich, 2010).
I assume that they are from the 1st Battalion.
The photo source is given as the "Liechtensteinisches Landesarchiv".
Cheers,
Sid.

Been off this site for a bit so my apologies for the late reply.antwony wrote: ↑09 Aug 2018, 13:33While I don't personally believe this, you could argue that Hoot, unintentionally, fails to understand his source material and lacks the critical reading skills to recognise how dubious his sources are. But, for me, given the nature of what he's an apologist for, and the nature of crimes his denying, I find him quite sinisterfons wrote: ↑09 Aug 2018, 09:24
After reading through some Indian Legion discussions of recent times, it seems that you sometimes have a serious problem understanding what others write back to you. It also looks like it is difficult for you to deal with answers from others, a bit of a problem on a 'discussion forum' right? It seems that all comments about the Indian Legion that don't fit your view of the subject immediately are 'white', 'racist' or 'biased' (not to mention 'axe-grinding'). The same also seems to apply to the writers of those comments. Through your use of the aforementioned terms, I get the impression that you are actually latent yourself what you accuse others of.
You modify your post, afterwards you lie about it, you put words in my mouth and you accuse me of being something I'm not. You are a untrustworthy discussion partner sir. You will probably have a very long block list by now...
best regards,
fons
As I was cleaning up my harddrive and notes from last year I was rereading this topic again, I noticed some peculiar things which puts a few replies on this topic into another light. You called hoot72 sinister in his postings? do read on...
The only location where they sold that Avtar Singh book "The Enemy Of My Enemy Is My Friend", which hoot72 more or less recommended and posted the discussed Tiger-picture from, has changed in the meantime (http://www.blurb.com/b/8246864-the-enem ... ook=641580)
On the 7th of August 2018 the e-bookprice was $9.99. Open the page now and there seems to have been a "Last Edit" on the 8th of August 2018, surprisingly just after I told hoot72 it was a crap book. The e-book is now a whopping $89.99 making it completely uninteresting for just about anyone to buy. And now the part which questions all of hoot72's postings and replies. Hover over the author with your mousepointer and you should see the profile name behind the publication popping up somewhere on your screen. In case you feel like not doing this yourself just check on the provided image; https://ibb.co/hyQTjHN
hoot72, praising Avtar Singh's book IS Avtar Singh
The guy wasted a lot of peoples time and effort, including mine...
(now lets see how long that Blurb-profile stays up, or gets edited again)

Hi fons,
Nice work.
It is loathsome when amoral individuals try to make money off the back of real risks taken, and real sacrifices, made by others. The Indian Legion deserve better.
There are, unfortunately, an increasing number of such individuals taking advantage of cheaper publishing and self publishing.
Thanks,
Sid.
