Flemish SS - Dreese Desender
Flemish SS - Dreese Desender
Does any one have detail on a Flemish SS soldier with the name of Dreese Desender? He was born around 1914 and died April 7 1991. He emigrated to Canada after the war.

Hello Paul,
Here 2 pictures of him.
When belgium got liberated in 09.1944 the belgian secret police (FBI?) started to make listed of all belgian collaborators who where still at large.
His name is mentioned in the book 2x.
Index 31 maart 1945 - Boek II - Blz 233 - D
Recap. Index 01.03.1946 - Eerste deel - Blz 258-259 - D
According to the extrait of his conviction by the belgium state for his collaboration with the Germans:
He would enterred the Waffen SS around 07.1942.
He served in the SS Freiw. Leg. 'Flandern', 6. SS Freiw. Sturm Brig. 'Langemarck', 27. SS Freiw. Gren. Div. 'Langemarck'.
I Don't know the excact Kompanie.
He probably surrenderd with the 27. SS Freiw. Gren. Div. 'Langemarck' in 05.1945.
Before the war he was member of the Flemisch movement Verdinaso. During the war he was member of the VNV (Vlaams Nationaal Verbond) the Flemisch collaboration party.
He was convicted on 07.11.1946 by the court martial 5 year prison and he was stripped away his belgian military ranks.
He was life long banned from the rights of art. 123sexties.
Art. 123sexties = banned from elections, the right to be an lawyer, a cival servant, leider of an political movement/party, the right to publisch a newspaper or any political papers, the right to be in a position in a sports, cultural sociaty wenn it has an political means, ..
This is so what i have on him.
Do you have more info about him from his time in Canada.
Greetings

Re: Flemish SS - Dreese Desender
Thanks Wim for your efforts. Your information is extensive
He left Belgium because he was labelled as black in their language. Moved to Canada and started his own business that his family still runs to this day.
Did he have any medals? Rank in the SS?

Re: Flemish SS - Dreese Desender
Hello Paul,
No problem.
According my info he was Schütze (see picture 1) and later on Sturmmann. Medals i don't have any info about that.
Do you have a death card of him? it would be nice for me to have a scan of it for my record.
Greetings

Re: Flemish SS - Dreese Desender
Hello Paul,
The reason that they are labelled as "ne zwarte" black is that they refer to the black uniform and name of the pary militia of the VNV, de Zwarte Brigade = the Black Brigade.
The resistance called themselfs the white brigades.
Also white = good black = bad.
