Came across interesting information on another American volunteer in Waffen SS. John/Ivan Marchak, a son of Ukrainian immigrants Dmytro and Anastasia Marchak was born on 22.10.1917 in Manchester, New Hampshire. The outbreak of the war caught him during his travels to Ukraine. Being stuck, he joined the Ukrainian police in General Gouvernment and in the Spring 1943 he, along with others volunteered for the 14th division SS Galizien. After the Brody pocket he avoided capture but could not make it back - so he joined UPA, Ukrainian partisans. Was actively fighinting against the Polish Communist Army (Armija Ludowa), captured and executed in the town of Sianyk on 27.05.1947.

Information take from UPA Cronicle, vol. 22, pg. 52-53.
