Osttrupp use of semi-automatic rifles?

Post by Komi » 13 Feb 2021 18:28

Did Germany ever issue any of their "Osttrupp" units with semi-automatic rifles, even if only in limited or specialist roles (such as marksmen)? I am asking both about Axis examples, such as the Gewehr 43, and also captured enemy examples, such as the SVT-40. It seems as though, regarding rifles, the only photos or written mentions I can find for "Osttrupp" equipment are bolt-action models such as Mosin-Nagants or K98ks. I understand all the reasons why this would be, but I am nevertheless curious.

The first one is an armenian legionaire (I think from 808th or 809th Battalion) and the second is from a Don-Cossack on the eastern front but I dont know the unit
