Greek Volunteers & the Security Battalions
Re: Greek Volunteers & the Security Battalions
There is an intercepted German Enigma radio message by Bletchley Park in UK National Archives, that might be of interest.
It is dated 1 March 1945, and sent by Rf-SS Himmler to HSSPF SS-Ogruf Rösener in Laibach:
"Betr. Griechisches Pol.freiw.batl. Poulos.
Setzen Sie das kleine griechische Pol.freiw.batl. bei sich in irgend einer Form ein. Beschäftigten Sie die Männer."
(Put to use the small Greek Police Volunteer Batl. you have in any way fit. Employ these men.)

App. there were some German personnel attached to this unit (Frw.Btl. z.b.V. Poulus), as on 20.4.1945 3 Meister der SchP., belonging to this unit, were promoted.

Do you have any details of the context for the picture you provided? It's interesting to see the mix of weaponry displayed, especially the 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles.
Thank you,
Pat

I don't think this photo has been shared on forum before:
The photo can be found on several Greek blog-websites. The oldest one I've found is this one: http://sykees8.blogspot.rs/2012/12/44.html
According to the blog caption, the initial source seems to be Munoz, "Herakles & the Swastika" (I don't have the book, so I can't check).
Cheers,
Ivan

Security troops in Kalamata, officers seem to be wearing Greek uniforms , the men in Italian ? uniforms and Greek/Italian helmets . An officer on the right side in British battledress.

Security battalion troops or volunteers from Crete, found this on Facebook , not too sure how accurate the uniform description is.
Would the white stripe on arm be a unit id ?

Re: Greek Volunteers & the Security Battalions
From a blog type article about collaboration in Greece , no date , but looks like some local village type militia with some uniformed men , not sure what uniforms.
Might be Greek gendarmerie.
