Hello!
Nice to see more replies!!
Comparing (again) with Norwegians: the youngest volunteer enlisted at the age of 14, the oldest was 59. (thinking of front-line service).
Thinking loud: most Norwegian volunteers did volunteer for war duty to fight for Norway, not Germany. Appearently, Anti-Communist Swedish volunteers must have had the same reason? To fight for Sweden?
Or: was the Pan-Germanic movement less "popular" in Sweden than Norway?
It is hard to imagine a hard core Swedish SSS members returning home as a deserter. Is it not?

Hello Björn,
In Sweden was the belief in Germany very high, even our King was
a friend of Germany and A. Hitler, his son the crownprince of
Sweden even meet A Hitler a few times, this was our present kings
father.
How young the you or how old the oldest was I have no Idea about that.
Those I know who was member of NSAP/SSS amd deserted didn´t continue their Political task, or this is what I know.
The most of them tried to vanish in silence.
I also have to ask Daniel who the first Swede to sign up for Waffen-SS??
It can´t be Somberg ? (BTW he died one year ago)

First Swede
Correct me if Im wrong, but the first swede to join the Waffen-SS have to Sven Erik Olsson, who joined the 16. (MG)/SS-Totenkopf-Rekrutenstandarte on 8. November 1939.

More motivated is not an accurate word, I admit that. The whole situation were different for Swedes that lived in Norway, Denmark or Germany. Both Norway and Denmark were occupied and the political arena as well as the general life were different for those Swedes than for those who were in Sweden.Yes, still a most complex situation. Especially if you mean that those with "connections to Norway or Denmark" were more motivated than the others. Why was that?
