Dear Friends,

I will be glad if you could help me to provide infos about Armenian Legion in Wehrmacht. I need info about:
1. where, when and by whom the legion was founded?
2. its OOB and commander
3. its service (where, when, and against whom)
4. its fate after the war

Thanks in advance

I have some information, not much but its something. The Armenian Legion was formed in 1942 and consisted of Ostbataillone Nr. 808 and 809. During 1943 the Armenian Legion raised Ostbtl. Nr. 810-816.

There also was 22 Armenian independent ordnance depot, supply, construction-engineer, railwayconstruction and roadconstruction companies.

The German 162nd Infantry Division was tasked during the period May 1942 - May 1943 to train troops of the various Eastern Legions among which was Armenians. The Armenian Battalions was designated as 2nd Bn/Infantry Regiment 9, 1st Bn./Inf.Regt. 125, 1st Bn./Inf.Regt. 198 and 3rdBn./Inf.Regt. 73.

The 162nd later became known as the Trucoman Division and fought partisans in Slovenia and Italy. This is as much information I have at the moment.

It was called "Turkistan" or "Turkistanische", not Trucoman.

More on Div. is here.

Hi friends,

Kocjo, thanks a million times for the links... :D
And jarek_g...wow...thanks a million times for your infos also. You are one of the best info sources about the Ostlegions... :D
BTW, if the Armenians serve in 162.Turkistanische Division, how about their's relationship with Azerbaijan contingents in the same division? Both of them were bitter enemy, even until this day.

Best Regards

Hi jarek_g,

Thanks again for the infos. About Joachim Hoffmann's Die Ostlegionen 1941-1943, did you ever read it? If so, how about the contents? Is it good enough? I wonder if the book also have pictures...

Best regards
