I would say, a Waffen-SS unit on paper from 1944. But i would not call it a Sipo-SD auxiliary unit, rather a Serbian "Home Guard" under German/Serbian control.Panzermahn wrote:So the conclusion is
Serbien Freiwiligen Korps was
a) technically a Waffen SS unit
b) operationally a non-Waffen SS unit but a Sipo-SD foreign auxiliary unit
am i correct?

You obviously haven't followed this thread carefully.
Two units have been discussed here.
- SS unit
(called "Srpska SS jedinica" (Serbian SS unit) in SDK officer's B.N.Kostić's memoirs,
or "1.beogradski specijalni borbeni odred" (1st Belgrade Special Combat detachment)
or "Srpski Gestapo" (Serbian Gestapo) in http://www.vojska.net website, researched by Ivan Bajlo)
- non-SS unit (called "Srpski dobrovoljački korpus", SDK (Serbian volunteer corp),
or, in German, Serbische Freiwilligen-Korps, which was in 1944. a Waffen-SS unit on German paper, but never in reality.
Members of 1st Belgrade Special Combat detachment wore German SD uniforms
and have volunteered for German unit.
Members of Serbian volunteer corp wore Serbian uniforms
and have volunteered for Serbian unit.
Huge difference.
As B.N.Kostić remembers (1st page of this thread) SDK had combats against Serbian SS unit.
Cheers,
Ivan

Here's an interesting photo of SDK.
Man inspecting the unit is Serbian patriarch Gavrilo (Dožić),
who was arrested (by Germans) and sent to concentracion camp "Dachau",
as German enemy and "war criminal" *.
Behind him is JVuO general Miodrag M.Damjanović (tall one with moustache and a tie)
and JVuO duke and ex-priest Momčilo Đujić (at far right, with beard).
Photo comes from one of many SDK books, i've copied it a long time ago,
so i can't remember which one exactly, sorry.
*words of SD men who arrested patriarch Gavrilo
(Memoirs of Serbian patriarch Gavrilo, page 291)

Patriarch Gavrilo is blessing SDK.
From left to right - general Kosta Mušicki, patriarch Gavrilo (Dožić),
duke Momčilo Đujić and SDK priest Aleksa Todorović.
It is hard to believe that patriarch Gavrilo,
who was arrested and humiliated* by German SD and sent to Dachau camp,
would bless one Waffen-SS unit, isn't it...?
/Ivan

who was imrisoned with patriarch Gavrilo in Dachau camp as well,
and četnik duke Đujić.
