Hang on! Are you sure this guy on the left is not the same as above? To me it's Erwin Rösener!

Irwanss, well spotted! You have a good eye...

Thanks.
...but i doubt that's Rösener again.
Looks too fat (face) to be him.
...and the nose is different.

Cheers,
Ivan

Alexander Eggersdorfer...?
I'm not sure...more "no", than "yes"...
Does anyone have a better photo of Eggersdorfer?

Hi Everyone -

Thanks Ivanwss for posting the photos.

Schwimmwagen photo: Sauberzweig is standing in the vehicle. The driver is SS-Uscha. Stefan Schaffhauser. The officer standing beside the vehicle looking up is SS-Stubaf. Hans Hanke, Kdr. of II/28. Marc is of course correct that Erich Braun is standing at the far right. The fact that Sauberzweig and Hanke are both wearing fezzes in the field means that this was some sort of special occasion.

Mufti photo: This photo was taken at Neuhammer because Husseini never visited the division in Bosnia. The German officer in the leather overcoat slightly resembles Gerhard Dierich but I can't swear that it's him.

Sauberzweig with mapboard: The officer at his right could be either Liebermann or Eggersdorfer, it's hard to tell. This photo was obviously taken during Operation Wegweiser or just after the division crossed the Sava River, as both men are dressed in winter clothing.

That is Franz Matheis, following his relief as Kdr. of Rgt. 28. He became Führer b. Stab.

These are two different men. The second is Heinz Knoll, Kdr. of SS-Geb. Pi. Btl. 13, KIA on 30 March 1945.

I hope this information is useful.

Best regards,

George Lepre

Thanks for infos, George. :)

But i'm 99% sure (now when i compared those Rösener's photos) that it's him with mufti.
Nose, ears, chin, mouth, eyes, even the uniform & cap (& Edelweiß) - match.

...another example (attached)

To me it is the same face.
But are there some documents about Rösener's meeting with Al-Husseini...?

Still no confirmation for Rösener...?

Check this out:
next photo was published in book "Mountain troops of the Waffen-SS 1941-1945" (R.Kaltenegger),
as men of "Handschar" Division. But these men look like Turks to me.
They are not wearing uniforms or SS insignia and men in the background are wearing turbans.

Btw, this book contains too many errors for such small book,
for example: vehicle with clearly visible "Prinz Eugen" insignia is claimed to be from "Handschar" etc...

Next photo has been discussed before.
( http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... el+himmler )
It shows Pohl, Model, Kammler and Himmler.
According to "Uniforms Of The SS" it was taken on 12. I 1944.
during Model's visit to "Handschar" Division.
I have found same photo in one communist book a long time ago,
and it claimed the same thing. Can someone confirm Model's visit to "Handschar"?
If this is true, than the photo must have been taken in Neuhammer during "Handschar" training period...

Hi Ivan -

Thank you for posting the pics. They are certainly interesting.

Himmler visited the Handschar Division on two different occasions during its sojourn at Truppenübungsplatz Neuhammer. The first visit took place on 21 November 1943, the second on 11-12 January 1944.

I have a copy of the 13th SS Div. order for Himmler's second visit to the division. The RF-SS arrived on 11 January and addressed the division's assembled officer corps that evening. On the 12th, I/28 conducted a tactical exercise for his benefit. I have seen photos of both of his visits, interviewed the Ia and several other officers who were present, and can say that I never heard that Model was there. It was always known that Handschar was destined to operate in the Balkans, a theater that Model never served in.

However, the Model-Himmler photo certainly seems as if it was taken during the same rough time frame as the RF-SS Handschar Besuch.

Best regards,

George

Thanks, George.
Would you agree that these are "Handschar" men with Damjanović?
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=75745

Btw,
I'm looking for a photo from the same photo-session (Majevica, 1944).
I have just one part published in one četnik book.
But there's also one soldier (blond, i think) with Damjanović, on the left.
I've seen complete photo in communist book about četniks by Latas & Dželebdžić.

Here's second part of the photo:

Hi,

I’m looking for information about two Handschar officers (both Sturmbannführer).

The first photo was taken in Neuhammer during the visit of Great Mufti. Who is Sturmbannführer who is introducing himself to Mufti? He wear Iron Cross and some cuff-title, probably "Prinz Eugen". I found this photo in some Zionistic web-site (tellthechildrentrue.com, I believe).

Sturmbannführer on second photo is also unknown to me. This photo is from some neo-Ustasha web-site.

So, does anyone recognize these two men?
