Cheers to both. For other photos from the album, search the Yad Vashem photo archive with numbers 1797/14 to 1797/67 (note: they weren't sorted chronologically).

Zervuss BG44,
In George Lepre's divisional history, on page 217, you'll find a grainy picture with the following legend: "Partisans of the 16th Vojvodina Division at Lopare, 9 June 1944. The destroyed remnants of 7./AR 13 are visible in the background". The same page also shows radioman Eduard Roth who fought in the battle of Lopare and survived.
Gruß,
Frans

Hello folks!!
Are there any known (confirmed) photos of the division taken at the time when it was moved to the Eastern Front?
I know that division was splitted up a bit..

Hermann Schifferdecker was born on August 10th, 1921 (Zuzenhausen-Sinsheim/Baden, Germany) and commanded I./Waffen-Gebirgs-Jäger Regiment der SS 27 (kroatisches Nr. 1) from Feb. 17, 1945-April 8, 1945. He was awarded with Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse (March 30 1945), Deutsches Kreuz in Gold (April 1945 - at that time he was SS-Hauptsturmführer of Reserve) and EK2. He died in 2006.

I think it's not quite clear, the number of non-Muslims changed from time to time due desertions etc. I know from Mr Lepre's book that eventually 2,800 Catholic-Croats were drifted into the division but many of them deserted in the first three months. It's really difficult to say that but later (late 1944) more and more Germans were pressed into the division to fill the ranks because of the high desertation-rate.

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know where to find or has a photo of the ceremony where Von Oberwurzer was replaced as commander by Sauberzweig? It would help me a lot.
