Hello, everyone

Every now and then, when researching something related to the "Handschar", I check our dear host George's book "Himmler's Bosnian Division". Yesterday, instead of a quick-check, I started re-reading it again and reminded myself of how well written that book truly is. A real treat!

That's all I have to say! ;)

Cheers,
Ivan

Hello, Ivan

That is true, from time to time I just take the book and read some pages and it's always interesting! Sometimes I wonder how much time it took to write the book, to be honest.

Cheers,

Hello!
First of all, I think this photo was already shared here but I have a question. From left to right; Unknown, Alexander Eggersdorfer, Karl-Gustav Sauberzweig. Does anybody know in which town this photo was taken? According to the website it was taken on 17th April 1944, Bosnia.
I hope that somebody can help me.

The place is Brčko, March 1944, the division's return to Bosnia. Photo by SS-PK Nonnenmacher.

German personnel of SS Handschar Division, pictured in 1944. From left to right: SS-Unterscharführer Riesen (Spieß), SS-Untersturmführer Sackl (Führer 1.Zug), and SS-Obersturmführer Rein (Führer 2.Zug). Maybe someone know the unit or their Christian names?

Some info from John P. Moore's Führerliste:

Rolf Rein (* 14.07.1921 Hannover) SS-number 487611
SS-Flak Abt. 13 in 04.1944 as Ustuf.
SS-Flak Abt. 509 in 07.1944 as Ustuf.

Vitalius Sackl (* 09.08.1915 in ?) no SS-number
7. SS-Frw. Geb. Div. "Prinz Eugen" in 04.1942 as Ustuf.
SS-Flak Abt. 13 in 01.1944 as Ustuf.
SS-Pz. Jg. Abt. 509 in 12.1944 as Ustuf.

It should be noted that 17.06.1944 the 3.(le.)/SS-Flak Abt. 13 (with 2,0 cm. Fla. guns) became the 3.(Fla.)/SS-Pz. Jg. Abt. 509. My educated guess is that Sackl served in these units.

Best regards,
Frans

Good morning,

interesting topic, a question is certainly allowed:

A german collector friend bought a very "cropped" Fez in the early 1970s, as seen in some of the photos of that time.
Very expensive collectors stuff, even back then, as far as I remember, more than 1000,- german Mark back then for the Fez.

The question, why were some of these Fez headdresses cut so short, and formed to a special "style", was that the characteristic of some special units?

Thanks for answers, pure curiosity..?

Hans1906

Btw: The book of George Lepre is online as a *pdf file, download close to 8 megabyte, with good text, but bad photo quality,
certainly not in the author's sense.
