Photo showing one of the imams in the Handschar Division.
His name is Muhamed Mujakić and here is also some information about him:
Mujakić Muhamed, captain by rank, imam in the 13. SS
supply battalion; born 17.02. 1913. in Cazin, where
he also died (December 13, 1978). He spoke German and Arabic language. He finished Gazi Husrev- beg madrasa
in Sarajevo, and already in 1934. he was appointed as
reserve military imam in the army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia .He worked in Bijeljina as a religious teacher, and then in Cazin as a municipal financial employee. He joind the Handschar Division on June 22, 1943. Mujakić's file with many private documents were destroyed after his death by his relatives in fear of the communist regime. Mujakić himself, by the way, was not convicted for war participation in the SS division "Handschar", but was arrested in 1950. along with many other fellow imams on suspicion of being involved in the revolt of the people of Cazinska Krajina against the repressive measures of the Yugoslav communist regime (an event remembered as the "Cazinska buna").
