I got the information from a site run by a Russian archeologist in the Stalingrad area. The site seems to have disappeared and he is not answering emails. In that sense its not verified by other sources but the info he gave was quite detailed. There were two regiment sized battle groups--KG Stelle and KG Schmidt--backed up by an ad hoc artillery battalion using captured Russian guns. The unit initially had German officers but towards the end was completely Russian run. The men in the unit were all Russian defectors and Cossacks and they fought right to the end in the Tractor Factory area. This is indeed a fascinating piece of history. The image of Russians fighting Russians in Stalingrad right into 1943 is obviously not a story the Soviets were keen on having the world know. That of course, and the huge number of Russians fighting with the Germans within the pocket itself. Estimates there run into the tens of thousands.

Stempefeld Division
Yes actually I have that site thanks. You can find an amazing amount of research data on the net, but not everything. I defy you to come up with a site that gives detailed information on Italian Army dispositions for World War One for example. There is a site giving a fair amount of info, but nothing on actual Army composition and deployment etc.
BTW I have a TOAW design of the campaign in southern Russia posted at warfarehq in ongoing AARs. The Stempefeld division will appear in a few weeks I believe.

To Frentebro- Book on Police Bn.
Hi Frentebro!
I think the book in question is Ordinary Men - Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the final solution in Poland by Christopher R. Browning.
Best regards,
Marcus Karlsson
