After the failure of the Iraqi rising in summer 1941 numbers of Arab sympathisers were shipped out of the Middle East by the Germans and gathered at Cape Sunion, near Athens,as Sondesstab Felmy. In January 1942 the group,at company strenght, was retitled Deutsche-Arabische Lehr-Abteilung (DAL).A company was raised in summer 1942,mainly from French North African volunteers;and about 600 DALpersonell later saw active service in North Africa, though little combat-morale apparently slumped after the death of the CO- Oberst Meyer Ricko.A third company raised in Greece in spring 1943 remained there on security duties.

From a SS collcer who have been studying and collceting German Miltary items for 15 years. I would not doubt it because their was Indians in the SS. So why not afircans. I know their were a number of WW1 German African vertrans in the German Army as well.

Could you elaborate more on the "black" soldier/soldiers serving in the SS Handschar division?

From what I known, the only "black men" (including Indians if you considered them "black") that served under the German Armed Forces were

a) Freies Arabien Legion
b) Legion Azad Hind (later to be transferred to the Waffen SS under the title Indische Freiwiligen Legion der SS)
c) LVF (four black men volunteered and were accepted, one of them was from Martinique)
d) A Black Gestapo agent (also served under the Corps Autoprotection D'Francais)
e) Totenkopfverbande (I don't know whether you considered Australian aborigines "black" people but one of them, from a German-Australian Aborigine parentage, served as a camp guard in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp)
f) Organization Todt (in France)

I have no idea whether Askari veterans of WW1 living in Germany served in the Wehrmacht or not

Can you supply any more details or photos?
Cheers

I think these men formed the cadre of KODAT (Kommando Deutsche-Arabien Truppen)

Well, to be exact, North Africans are Indo-Europeans, classification of them as "white" is quite inaccurate
