Reply Americans in the Waffen-SS

Hello,

It has been estimated that a total of at least 3-5 Americans served in the Waffen-SS (Mybe more!). One of the 3-5 being an American Army Air Corps pilot who flew over Vienna, Austria in 1944. He landed a short time later and defected to the Germans. He later became a member of the SS. Strange isn't it that when Germany was losing and the US winning, that an American pilot would defect!

Also numerous Americans of Germanic heritage served in the German Wehrmact (Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine).

And last but not least a handful of Americans (and some British) were used to spread propaganda through the radio. They would give radio broadcasts from inside the Reich about how this was not America's war, and that the American's and German's were brothers, etc.

Hope that this helps,
Chad Crompton
