This raises a larger question, about why some historical events make a deep impression & others don't.
For instance, I believe that perhaps the deadleist air raid of all time was in Mar. '45 against Tokyo,
and yet European air raids & the A-bombs are much better known.
And off topic --
The flu epidemic of 1918 killed more Americans than any war we have ever engaged in --
how much do we ever hear of it?
There was a forest fire in Wisc. around the same time as the Chicago fire of 1871, that killed more
people & caused more damage. Yet the Chicago fire is far better known.
Just because an event becames infamous doesn't mean there are other events that are worse to
the people living through it.
