Are there statistics on the losses of separate German divisions during operation Overlord?

Thank you ! Very interesting statistics. According to these numbers average casualties of German division were 85 men per day, which roughly in two times higher than on Eastern front in 1941 where average daily casualties of German division were 40 men per day

That should not be surprising because in 1941 the Germans were fighting a war of movement and winning themselves to death over extended supply lines. In 1944 they were fighting a battle of attrition.

How did you calculate that figure? Did you take into account the different arrival dates of each formation, and in the case of the 716th infantry , the date they left theatre?

Because some of these figures are to 31 July they miss many of the losses incurred in August, when many German casualties were incurred the Falaise pocket and the withdrawal across France.

How does this compare with the figures for Op Bagration, whioch took place at the same time?

Many prisoners captured first of all. According to SHAEF records about 90 000 POWs were taken by Allies in Normandy by the end of July and further 80 000 in August. Not all of them belonging to the said divisions, of course.

I posted this a long time ago somewhere:

German PoW and Casualties in Normandy

To date I have found the following information regarding German prisoners as recorded by Allied forces in Normandy. These are from G-2 reports for the US 29th ID (1-31 July), US 90th ID (11 June-31 August), US XIX Corps (1-31 August), and Cdn II Corps (8-23 August). The total is 39,320 as follows:

29th ID – 705
90th ID – 11,790
XIX Corps – 9,627
II Corps – 17,198

In terms of origins reported, they are:

An additional 2,750 were reported captured by XIX Corps in July, but are not identified by unit. This total of 42,070 appears to account for 18.17 percent of the 231,523 reported captured by SHAEF through 31 August.

Zetterling used to have figures online but sadly, they disappeared.
