ASW tactics

What were the tactics used in the Battle of the Atlantic with regards to ASW?

Was it prosecute to kill or prosecute to drive off?

Were torpedoes used, or was it exclusively depth charges and/or Hedgehogs?

Did escorts assigned to convoys operate differently than those with SAGs?

The american Mk 24 acoustic homing anti-submarine torpedo were used (also by british and canadian airforces) after it's introduction in 1943.
