Anyone know what happened to all the British Shermans post-war?
There's a 50s film starring Jack Hawkins called "The Intruder", early in the film there's a scene where they film Shermans being cut up in a field... must be over 50 of them. I think they cut the barrels off and remove the engines. [demilitarised and removed the usable part? I think the army would have removed radios and anything re-usable? ]

You may see it on a new tv channel focussing on showing old film/tv called "talking pictures'.

Surely sloped armour is a misnomer and should be called "armour sloped when resting on level ground"?

And fired at by a gun that is also on that same level ground.

Not too far away either, so the shell doesn't have a parabolic trajectory.

Good point! Forgot about plunging fire! But, hopefully no one would fire at a tank at that distance, even if he could see it!!

Mike
Plunging fire by a US 155mm battalion or British 5.5" Medium Regiment could KO tanks

I assumed the discussion was tank to tank or tank to anti-tank fire, direct fire.
