Good morning all,

Per ...

Head Note: Article neglects to mention the unofficial USN expression "Waging Peace".

Note that the utmost secret "command of the western and southern Atlantic ... by the United States Fleet". Apparently it was best for the US to protect Bridgetown, Port of Spain, and Georgetown because both Downing Street and the White House assigned more importance to Colon, Panama and the Canal in the overall scheme of things.

Note: "gunnery practice and maneuvers were all but impossible in the rough seas and bitter cold of the North Atlantic".

Note: "weather teams on ...Greenland".

Note: "USS Vincennes ... at Casa Blanca ... her logs read Lisbon". The later Cold War era Vincennes was part of the USS Stark event. Vincennes shot down an Iranian A310 Airbus Teheran enroute to Dubai.

Note: "Stationed on the French Atlantic coast, the U-boats' cruising radius now doubled".

Note term "Belligerent Neutrality".

Note that Lend-Lease funds used for RN vessel repair in New York City.

A single sentence from the article:
As much as the Royal Navy lacked at the start of the war, it did have the capacity to blockade Germany, bottle up most of the German surface fleet, and handle the few U-boats and raiders that operated on the high seas.
denies its premise that:
America’s participation in an undeclared naval war in the Atlantic reaped enormous benefits toward its total war effort and helped carry Britain through its toughest two years.

The Neutrality Zone patrol was useful for the RN.
