Feldwebel Helmuth Schindler StG2 killed while a POW at Dunkirk by a LW air raid on May30

Oblt von Oelhaven's Ju88 of KG30 was shot down on may 29th. His craft hit the water 25 yds from Nieuport. the Crew made it to shore and split up but he and his gunner were captured. While they were being taken to a ship another raid came in. von Oelhaven jumped under the pier where he stayed neck deep for 36 hours listening to men above walking.

Eventually he came out at night, grabbed a Tommy helmet and greatcoat and hid in a hole on the beach until found 4 days later by 2 Landsers. He survived eating abandoned Bully beef tins and refusing entreaties' by Rear Guard Frenchmen to join them and surrender

thank you for your testimonies, German prisoners; there are many around Dunkirk, I have testimonies from a soldier of the 43rd RI who speaks of about sixty German soldiers who pass before his eyes, apparently the freighter Saint Octave served as a regrouping point for German prisoners in Dunkirk with more than 300 prisoners evacuated on trawlers or a minesweeper named Emile Deschamps; the latter would have shuttled several times to England with his German load, but I do not know more, we do not know the number of prisoners transferred to England…..
