from What I have read about Gunther Prien he wa an extremely daring risk taker to accomplish his mission of sinking enemy vessels...
Thus logicially his course of action upon finding the enemy convoy would have been either:
1] attack many of vessel and cause havoc ....
2] help the wolfpack by radioing convoy positions.....
A theroy..is that Prien may have deceided to open fire on the convoy....by himslef....however in the choas of battle..U-47 may have been so badly damaged by depth charged...it sank out of control....early in the battle actions...hence no comminication from U-47 or Prien...
