It is daylight and CG-4 Waco gliders so Mission ELMIRA. Probably somewhere around LZ O, which was northwest of Ste. Mère-Eglise.

I'm guessing somewhere between Beauvais and Sigeville.

Gliders photo is the area of Les Forges, where the N13 highway and Chef-du-Pont - Ste.Marie-du-Mont road intersect. I'm still looking for a proper hires copy of that photo BTW...

Interesting. Then LZ W, which didn't seem right since by that time it was getting darker and there should be more evening shadows.

This is a very popular "general purpose" picture for various authors who want to show for their readers aerial logistics system of Normandy invasion. Even such an expert like Michel De Trez did not risk to inform where this place is. Both US-operated Horsa Mk Is and CG-4As can be seen in this photo. From logistics point of view on D+1 the 101st Abn was supported by 52 CG-4As (LZ "E"). In the same time the 82nd Abn was supported by 140 Horsa Mk Is and 88 CG-4As (LZ "W").
