Hi everybody.
I am helping expanding the database of the web map at Project44.ca and I am now studing the German operations in France in August 1944.
By looking into the "Lage Frankreich" maps I find for August 26th a northeasterly attack of a M-Bri 358 beyond the Loire rIver, departing from Sandillon and arriving (or aimed) to Sully-la-Chapelle.
Does anybody know which unit was this M-Bri 358? There's no Marine-Brigade 358 as far as I know, and as long as I have searched I can't find a suitable unit with Number 358. I begin thinking it's a mistake...
In the map there's also a "Rgt. Orleans", that I guess it was an Alarm Unit.
Thank you in advance
Federico

Buongiorno
Regt Orléans I suspect it is the Sicherungs-Regiment 192 initially not numbered but only named from the Johannic city, so a former denomination
by the way very far to be concentrated in such sector with its 4 battalions given that in "august 1944" a part was still operating against the Maquis in my district and around at ~300 km from Orléans

I suspect the designation on the map is difficult to read. It is probably M-Btl 358 - Marschbatallion 358, which was in the area south of Orleans on 16 August 1944, under the command of Hptm. Eikhof with a strength of 700-750 officers and men. It was probably part of KG Scharr of 708. Infanterie-Division. There was also M-Btl. 348 (Hptm. Müller), M-Btl. 360 (Hptm. Flasch), 3./Pi. 668 (Hptm. Büchner), and 2./Artl.-Regt. 1316, which were part of KG Scharr, as well as a Pak-Abtl. and possibly 6./Artl.-Regt. 1316. It is possible "Rgt. Orleans" (Sich.-Regt. 192) joined later.pey wrote: ↑13 Nov 2023 10:59I am helping expanding the database of the web map at Project44.ca and I am now studing the German operations in France in August 1944.

Thank you very much, Loic and Richard!
I was going backward in time and was very surprised when I discovered a German attack on 26th, 12 days after the capture of Orleans.
