Does anyone know who the four German officers were that Hitler had executed after the bridge at Remagen fell into enemy hands? Thanks... Rob.

Major Johan Scheller last commander of Remagen Bridge, buried at Birnbach (near Altenkirchen)
He was in command at Remagen for all of 4hrs. What a great scapegoat

Also executed for their roles at Remagen were the commanders of the engineer regiment and the battalion responsible for the bridge and a commander from a air defence unit who couldn't prove that he destroyed some experimental weapons before the Yanks arrived.

The US troops who crossed the bridge at Remagen generally get the credit for being the first Allied troops over the Rhine. However, about 200 miles south of Remagan, by Kembs, there is a Sherman tank. This is in fact a Memorial to a French tank unit. This very tank had crossed the Rhine, before a short time later it was knocked out. It is still there today, just where it was KOed.

It predates the Remagen crossing by about 6 days.

Cheers.
