HARZ MOUNTAINS
Hi what were the names of the mountains in the battle for the Harz mountains.Any help would be appreciated.Brian
I may be wrong here but the "Harz mountains" is simply a mountainous area of no great elevation and lacking peaks. There was little opposition to the American advance except south of the Ohrdruf/Crawinkel/Arnstadt triangle at the beginning of April 1945 when US forces were surprised to find themselves confronted by 6 SS-Division "Nord" whom they considered elite mountain troops. The purpose of this opposition was to gain time while the SS destroyed important subterranean facilities near Ohrdruf.
