nice story, although I see no mention is made to Italians.
What I got from this text, however, is that the Russian testimony was working with a tank repair unit and did not personally took part to the fighting. Am'I wrong?
Does you source mention anywhere "soldat kurke". Apparently Russians gave this name to Bersaglieri because of their hat (decorated with capercaillie feathers)?

Lupo,
judging from your past posts I thought you had already almost every possible informaiton on the Italian army!
Anyway, I will be pleased to send you the information I have.

If the 652th battalion started with 30 tanks and ended up with 7 and the Italian reports state that 47 tanks either destroyed or abbandoned, then other Russian armored units took part to the action.

My source, the one that mentions the 652th battalion, claims that there were other not-identified units attached perhaps to the 124th rifle division.

any clue?

Hi,

Easily damaged tanks could be repaired and again go to fight. There were cases when Soviet repair unit within 3-4 days returned tanks in alertness on 2-3 times.

I have looked a map which have placed Tigre. There on a site of front in 30 kilometers there is only one Soviet unit - 304 ID.

The second world war was war where all participants overestimated losses of the opponents.

Best regards!

Alex.

Hi,

quoted from Hauck, Die 305. Infanterie-Division, p. 52 ff.:

IR 578 (Oberst Winzer) together with III./AR 305 was moved to the Sserafimowitch bridgehead on 24.7.1942 and given to the CELERE on 30.7.1942 (XVII. AK). The regiment refused an russan tank attack on 30./31.7.1942, and took the western part of the russian bridgehead on 31.7./1.8.1942. During this attack it destroyed 7 tanks and took 195 PoWs.

The regiment was removed on 4.8.1942, its part was taken by the III./208 of the 79. ID. IR 578 reached the rest of the 305. ID on 6./7.8.1942. It suffered heavy losses (strength: staff 78%, 13./IR578: 60%, 14./IR578: 62%, I./578: 45%, II./578: 38%, III./578: 26%.

Greetings

I have found this fragment of the Italian text. You are familiar with this text?
Sreafimovich, 30 - 31 luglio 1942.
prendere parte all' azione offensiva che doveva portare all' eliminazione
insistente cominciò a cadere.
- Circa mezz' ora
tutta l' azione svolta contro i carri in varie fasi: Prima fase: I carri
metri e vengono sparate 30 granate a caricamento cavo e 30 granate a scoppio
- Esaminato in seguito
circa 500 metri. Visibilità ottima. I carri appaiono improvvisamente lungo
leggeri. In definitiva la batteria da 75/97/38 del 120° nei giorni 30 e 31
luglio riusciva a distruggere o ad immobilizzare: giorno 30 - 4 carri T34 3
2 leggeri; giorno 31 - 2 carri T34 e 2 leggeri.
EFFETTO dei proietti. Granata a c.c.: deve colpire i punti vulnerabili del
carro, altrimenti non dà l' effetto desiderato. - Sui carri immobilizzati
corazza verso l' interno. - Granata a scoppio: sui carri T34, nessun
effetto. - Si sono dimostrate efficaci contro carri leggeri."
