I hesitate to post something so simple after this level of erudition, but here goes:

Wow.

This is just incredible info. I was looking for some background to a wargame scenario about State Farm 79 and stumbled on this thread. I immediately joined the site. I have NEVER seen anything so well done, exhaustive and insightful on this series of fascinating battles (Chir river).

Thank you so much.

ViewOnSFRedStarFromHeight161.jpg
On December, 7-8th, 1942 in this settlement was lost more than 3000 German soldiers. They are buried directly in settlement in a ravine near this road.
Germans have forced to collect of bodies of victims the inhabitants of settlement.
As corpses was much, and the earth firm from a frost, it was impossible to drip all corpses. Therefore corpses stacked at an abrupt slope of a ravine and have then blown up this slope an explosive. The explosive was stacked by inhabitants under the guidance of the captured Russian sapper who has been wounded in the left hand.

Data from the counters found to the south from Lisinsky. Here there was a right flank 336 ID and battle group Schtumpfeld operating together with it. A place of a joint with battle group Adam ((from which was then 384 ID is created)
Attracts attention, that only one victim from an infantry regiment 336ID. Such situation repeats and in other places.

You seem not not Notice that the Unit on the Erkennunsmarke is normally the unit of training, will say: where the person got his military basic training  Only when the Marke was lost a new one was created. So normally it says nothing about the unit the person belonged to at front line

Chir River Battles
Dec 4-22 1942
Chir River: 4 - 22 December 1942
by Russel H.S. Stolfi

The headquarters of the 48th Panzer Corps and the divisions under its command began to arrive in the Chir salient on 4 December 1942.

Relationship of the Chir River Battles to the Stalingrad Pocket - less than 20 miles from Group Adam to the 6th Army.

Manstein set the German 336th Infantry Division, commanded by Major General Walter Lucht, under the operational control of the panzer corps and this steady, veteran Saxon unit completed its deployment close to the Chir River by 6 December in the face of mounting Soviet pressure against the stopgap alarm units already in position.
I only wished to specify in narrowness of knowledge of those people, which, as professor Russel H.S. Stolfi or You, studies operations on fronts GPW under the semi-mythical writing army generals of Wehrmacht. Under what microscope here it is possible to see «veteran Saxon»?
