German anti-partisan operation "München"

#1

Post by halfaya » 26 Aug 2013, 13:39

I am searching info about this operation which took place on the 19th march 1942 around Bobruisk (Russia). (similar Operation Bamberg)
While googling I found an Operation Munich (München) which took place early July 1941 (Barbarossa) and consists in the reoccupation of Bessarabia and Northern-Bukova by Romanian troops, being part of the German Heersgruppe Süd.

Indeed, operation "München" is the Romanian-German part of the first stage of "Barbarossa", aimed to free Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina from Soviet occupation.
I never heard about an anti-partisans operation called "München" in March 1942. Do you know which units (Corps ? Divisions ?) were involved in it?

There may have been several antipartisan operations by the name of Unternehmen Muenchen but these would not have run at the same time. The main one was run in March-April 1942 in the Yelnya-Dorogobuzh area by the 221. Sicherungs-Division. There are several pages on it along with extensive source notes in:

Shepherd, Ben. War in the Wild East: The German Army and Soviet Partisans. Cambridge (MA): Harvard University Press, 2004. ISBN: 0-674-01296-8. Hb. Dj. 300p. Illus. Map. Appendices. Source notes. Glossary. Bibliography. Index. Pages 130-34.

John A. Armstrong (ed.)'s 1964 tome Soviet Partisans in World War II has 8 pages on it.
