Most of these battles centered around the community of Lestene, which today is the home of the official church of the Latvian Legion. The walls surrounding the Lestene cemetery have the the names of 20,000 Legionnaires who gave their lives in this epic struggle inscribed on them. Here is a video, from September of last year, which shows the the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and current Chief of Staff for the Latvian Army, who came to the funeral of a highly decorated Legionnaire, SS-Obersturmfuhrer Oskars Baltputnis. Also, be sure and note the scars of war which still cover the church exterior;

This might be a good location for you to begin your search. Also, I recommend the War Museum, located in the town of Zante, which contains a considerable amount of war debris, along with several maps showing the locations of the 6 major battles which occurred in Kurland. Most veterans tell me they thought that the Christmas Battles (23-31 December 1944) were the most ferocious as the Soviets threw 52 divisions into this conflict. These battle sites are located between Skrunda and Saldus. Here is a video showing the Zante Museum;
