Are daily reports available (Ovruch, Ukraine, August to November 1943)?
Are daily reports available (Ovruch, Ukraine, August to November 1943)?
Are official reports available for daily actions?
I am looking into a story of certain partisan actions in Ovruch Ukraine from about August to November 1943. And would like to find corroboration in German documents. Is it possible to find such reports documenting the effects of those actions?

Re: Are daily reports available
It was in the area of German 2nd Army, whose HQ was just up north in Mosyr (Mazyr).
Direct control was under Korück 580.
4th Pz-Div had a large depot there (which was taken over by partisans in mid-Nov 1943), according to Leutnant Ulrich Sachse from Pz.Aufk.Abt.4.
German daily maps show HQ of Hungarian 19 Infantry Division in Owrutsch.
I've seen your other posts. Not sure if you knew that Moshe Gildenman's partisan unit was under command of Soviet officer (later general) Alexander Saburov (Сабуров, Александр Николаевич). I doubt action like blowing a restaurant/hotel in Owrutsch happened without Saburov's approval.
So, lots of records to check!
BTW.
Moshe Gildenman was a Red Army lieutenant when finished his military carrier in 1945.
Although born in Russian Empire, before WWII lived in Korzec (Poland), now Korets in Ukraine.

Re: Are daily reports available
That's fantastic, thank you for replying.
Yes, I'm aware of "Diadia Misha." Indeed,Gildenman is the direct source of the original story that I'm trying to corroborate - the story of the twelve year old Motele Schlein. Gildenman published Motele's story in 1950 as Motele: der yunger partizaner. I'm just trying to flesh out the actual facts and details behind various elements of the story, in this instance the blowing up of the German officer's club in Ovruch/Owrutsch, sometime in the fall of 1943 - coinciding, as the story relates, with an influx of SS reinforcements passing through Ovruch following losses at Kursk.
My son (age 11) will be doing a first person monologue/performance as Motele for the National History Day Competition in the Spring, so I'm doing some behind the scenes research so I can better guide him in his own research. However, most of the detail elements I'm inquiring about here are just for my my own interest.
It was actually quite fortuitous that we became drawn into this story. As a violinist of some talent (he's been playing since he was three) my son was drawn to the violin aspect of the story. In fact we saw Motele's violin when the the "Violins of Hope" exhibition came to Cleveland last year. So when we learned that this years NHD competition theme was "taking a stand," there was no doubt that we had to do Motele's story. We're quite excited about it.

Re: Are daily reports available
Please, can anyone help?
To narrow it down a bit, I'm interested to learn what may have been happening in Ovruch/Owrutsch in September 1943.

Guess you need to check out John´s server and see if you can find NARA-rolls for this units and time.

Please elaborate. Can you give me a link? Is that the Russian site? I'm admittedly out of my element here.history1 wrote:Guess you need to check out John´s server and see if you can find NARA-rolls for this units and time.

Re: Are daily reports available (Ovruch, Ukraine, August to November 1943)?
Thank you -
I've spent some time at that site, it certainly is a great resource. He has several German target dossier aerial photos of Ovruch, one of which is clearly taken in winter (assuming Dec/Jan- 43/44) and is probably the closest to the time frame I'm interested in. But I'm not sure what it can tell me with regard to the story/info I'm trying confirm. sadly thus far I haven't had any luck (perhaps due to mu ineptness) getting on to the FTP server to explore what the NARA films have to offer, but I'll keep trying. In the meantime I'm still trying to get a handle on exactly what it is I should be looking for. I know what I want, just not what I need.

You ned to install a FTP software on your pc like this https://filezilla-project.org/
then connect it with John´s server. And I bet you´ll be astonished by the huge number of informations there!

IMHO, your best shot will be with the Korück 580 tip that Greg S. provided above. All of the Korück microfilm rolls are to be found in NARA Record Group 242 Microcopy T-501. Of the 363 rolls in this collection, 99 of them have been scanned and uploaded to 4 or 5 privately owned and operated servers:
http://www.sturmpanzer.com/research/too ... index.aspx
So you will have to locate the NARA Guides 38 and 57 and look for Korück 580.
Records of German Field Commands: Rear Areas, Occupied Territories and Others. Microfilm Publication T501. 363 rolls. (GG 38, 57 and T176/roll 25)
The next step would then be to determine if the roll or rolls with the Korück 580 records are available on any of the 4 or 5 privately owned and operated servers that I mentioned above. I am not sure how you would go about doing that, but perhaps someone else here can answer that question. If all else fails, you could still buy a copy of the roll or rolls from NARA at College Park, Maryland, or even drive down there and view the roll(s) in the research room.
Good luck!

I can't thank you enough! I'll look into these and hopefully have something to report back.
Re: Are daily reports available (Ovruch, Ukraine, August to November 1943)?
Of course the roll I need (T501 R81) isn't among the ones readily available! Can anyone help?
