StuGs and italians in Russia 1943

#1

Post by Lupo Solitario » 07 Jan 2018, 16:14

Hi all

It seems me this had been debated - a lot of time ago - but I can't find anything...

In January 1943 the Italian Alpine Corps retreated from Don line escaping from a pocket. In this struggle, a bunch of German StuGs had a key role. There are any records about how many StuGs were and which was their unit?

Thanks for any hint

Lupo

Greetings,

I found some info from the book Sacrifice on the Steppe by Hope Hamilton.

Page 107 says the Italian Alpine Corps had with it the German 24 Pz Corps which had four tanks and two self-propelled guns with scant artillery and a battery of rocket launchers...in all about 7,000 German troops.

Then on page 150, it says the Germans had four assault guns, 19 Jan 43 under the command of Major Fisher.

I hope this helps

Dann

Ciao Lupo!

It was the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 201.
