At a meeting in Borisov on August 4, Hitler forbade attacking the Valdai Heights. There tried to arrest him.

In other circumstances, Hitler would have disregarded the opinion of the generals and would have achieved his goal, but now the positions of the OKH, Army Group Center and the tank groups assigned to it were invincible. Hitler tolerated such obvious neglect on the part of the generals this time, however, he harbored a grudge against the OKH and especially against Brauchitsch. A compromise was found, which nonetheless put an end to the strategic intentions of the Fuhrer, at least with respect to Leningrad. Hitler categorically forbade the continuation of the attack on Valdai, saying that this was a relapse of the outdated General Staff tactics in the struggle for dominant heights.

- And when was the first attempt?

- In Borisov. Then von Treskov wanted to arrest Hitler along with staff officers. But the guard did not let his car to the column of the Fuhrer.
