How Many Shots to Neutralize a Tank?
Where's a reliable source where I can find out how many shots it usually took to neutralize a tank or was it usually just 1 shot?
Re: How Many Shots to Neutralize a Tank?
Big subject. Depends on the tank, the gun and some human factors. Sources have difference biases. For a scientific report from the 1944 Normandy campaign try Montgomery's scientists ed Terry Copp.ww2armchairhistorian wrote: ↑27 Oct 2020, 10:12Where's a reliable source where I can find out how many shots it usually took to neutralize a tank or was it usually just 1 shot?

Training, equipment design, and circumstances would make a single answer insufficient.

It would be a good first stept to provide a clear definition of what you understand as "neutralize". For example, it is enough to immovilize it (i.e. damaging his running gear or engine)[/quote] even if it's still able to fire, or do you need the crew killed, or the main gun unable to fire, or the tank burned beyond any repair? If the crew bail out and withdraw, even if the tank has suffered no real damage, do you think the tank has been neutralized? See what I mean?ww2armchairhistorian wrote:Where's a reliable source where I can find out how many shots it usually took to neutralize a tank or was it usually just 1 shot?
Anyway, as other posters had already said, it's almost impossible to give a simple answer to that question, as it depends on too many factors.
