DId the 11th and 34th army reached near the outskirts of the Demidov during 1941 winter offensive? Accroding to a situation map from the Soviet Military Encyclopedia,it was 4th Shock Army that reached the neighbourhood of Demidov. Was the narritive in the book an error?Farther north, deployed on the left wing of Kurochkin’s Northwestern Front, 3rd and 4th Shock Armies, the latter now commanded by Eremenko,
lunged southward through the snow-covered forests to seize Andreapol’ and Toropets and encircle a small German force in Kholm’. This offensive petered out on the approaches to Velikie Luki, having torn a gaping hole between Army Groups North and Center. Simultaneously, on the same front’s right wing, cooperating with the two shock armies on the left, 11th and 34th Armies smashed German defenses in the Valdai Hills and Lake Seliger sector and swept south-southwest to the outskirts of Staraia Russa and Demidov. This advance, reinforced by 1st Shock Army and the new 1st and 2nd Guards Rifle Corps, bypassed German pockets at Demiansk, Kholm’, and Belyi.
Need help,Thanks!
