Post by Martinn » 04 Nov 2021 11:02

Welcome .
Looking for confirmed data on Soviet forces taking part in offensive operations between 17/07 and 02/08 1943 on the Mius River.I know that the 5th Shock Army, the 28th Army and the 2nd Guards Army fought there, plus the 2nd and 4th Mechanized Corps of the Guard, but I need more detailed data - I searched and did not find

If no one has information about the Soviet troops, there may be information about the states of German divisions - 23PzD, 2Div SS, 3Div SS, 3PzD and 16Div. I am also asking for information on the German 4th Air Corps from the period between July 17 and August 2, 1943 - the units that fought in its composition. Please and thank you

Thank you very much for the answer - sorry, I don't know English, it is possible that Google translator made a mistake. I am looking for precise data, maps, information about the fights on the Mius River between 17 July and 2 August during the first offensive, I do not mean the August offensive. Based on the information obtained, I did something like this

A relatively recent Russian book is "Breakthrough of the Mius Front July-August 1943" by A. Isayev, which is downloadable online:
https://docer.pl/doc/n1ve008

You can also find original situation maps and other documents of the South Front and its constituent units, for example:

There is a book, 'Decision in the Ukraine', George Nipe. It should be you more detailed information about the German forces involved in at least the earlier part of the period you are interested in. The Kindle version of the book cost about $11.

Thank you very much for the information . I also have a question about the German 4th Air Corps - which air force supported the German army

Check out Christer Bergström's volume 'Black Cross / Red Star volume 5' and 'Kursk', they might have some information of interest. The air war on the Eastern Front after Kursk until 1945 isn't well covered.
