Point 1 of day report 21.10.1942

Because of enemy attacks on the northern front, the firing volume at XIV Pz AK was higher as usual.
Strong volume of firing is expected in Stalingrad in the area of LI corps for 22.10.
By not arriving of urgently awaited ammo columns , a shortage of heavy artillery ammo has occurred at LI AK. AOK hopes the shortage situation can be fixed on 22.10.
Roads and paths are partially well passable. At some chokepoints (Don crossings) strong congestions which strongly obstruct the regular traffic and cause big delays. AOK anticipates strong difficulties also for 22.10 in the inflow and shortage situations occurring through this.
Train arrival was sufficient.
Fuel situation generally improved . This could not have effect at the troop because of the road conditions."

Point 1 of day report 22.10.1942

The supply situation of the Army is determined by the again worsened weather . Several downpours which in itself were of short duration, have made the supply column traffic again more difficult.
A regular inflow of supply goods has become difficult through this. The transshipment Tschir-Loshki which is maintained by ca 30 tractors and recovered Panje teams perform not enough to secure the global supply of the units deployed on the east shore of the Don. The Army will try to remedy this by stronger use of tractor means . In addition, more tractors are necessary to increase the transshipment performance.
The Army anticipates tensions in all area in the next days until a improvement of the weather again allows the possibility of an orderly supply.
Train inflow good. Unloading performance is impaired by the lack of column capacity induced by the faltering return of columns. As a remedy the staff Don has again provided a company of Trsp.Rgt 602.
Fuel situation tight at the troops, sufficient in the Army depots and the unloading railway stations.
The inflow of trains with food is not sufficient at the time . Fodder situation still insufficient."

Point 1 of day report 23.10.1942

Higher volume of firing in the area of Stalingrad.
Covering of the firing volume from the stocks of the Army is secured and is continuously brought forward on the broad gauge rail line.
Further inflow of ammo for heavy infantry weapons necessary as Army stocks diminish because of high firing volume.
Column traffic still strongly complicated by difficult stretches of road in the Don lowlands. By using the instruction troop which is at the Army engineer school and NCO's as a large number of tractor machines , the transshipment performance Tschir- Loshki is further reinforced.
An especially energetic officer with special powers was employed for a firmer organisation of the transshipment and the railway operation.
Fuel situation at the troop very tight.
With continuing of the good weather, a gradual relaxing of the supply situation is expected."

AOK 6 Army H.Q 21.10.1942

concerns: supply report

to OKH/Gen.St.d.H/Gen.Qu

I. Railway situation,

The whole supply runs over the one track line Debalzewo-Lichaja-Tschir. The capacity of this railway line is limited. On average the Army received 4 1/2 trains on it in the last week. On individual days more trains arrived, mostly however a corresponding drop in performance followed.
Disruptions happening on the line are always a severe danger for the supply, because stockpiling is impossible with insufficient train arrival and reserves are barely available. The railway situation is made more difficult by the very vulnerable communications network which is exposed to daily disruptions. Therefore train pre reports were always imperfect. In best case the forecast reached 2 days. Only at the reaching of Debalzewo, often even further forward, were the trains known. The Army Group is also mostly not able to make binding promises because of bad communications.
Since a few days, an improvement has started in this situation; generally the Army now has an oversight on the train arrival for the next 4 days .
The former railway performance allowed only a driving up of the most urgent need of ammo, fuel and food. In all other areas of supply only individual transports could be driven which are in no way sufficient. Especially in all fields(inclusive ammo, fuel) a supply for the mud period and winter was not possible through the deficient inflow.
In addition the Army is now reliant on supply on most all areas because of the steppe areas out of which almost nothing can be gotten.
The Army has therefore an interest that the promised increase of the line perfiormance to 18 trains daily is soon achieved and that until this time only trains are driven that are vital for the Army.
.......
III.Fuel
The inflow of fuel has never reached the daily contingent of 850 cbm determined by the Army Group. The VS of the Army varies at the time between
0,2 and 0,4 VS.With this only the most urgent supply rides are possible. Tactically necessary relocations are only possible to a limited extent while putting back supply drives.
For the time being no improvement is expected.
One glysanthin train arrived on 14.10. Need of the Army is covered by him until a small residual need.
The consumption of oil is very high in the steppe area because of the extraordinary coming up of dust. Inflow does not cover the need.
The fuel allocated to the Army is consumed for the operations against Stalingrad and the execution of the supply. For the purpose of the winter supply(providing wood, raw fodder that is mostly far away, transport of the additional winter clothing, etc...) no fuel in significant amounts is available.
Also not enough fuel can be allocated for repair shops, workshops and other supply services. Their operation can only be maintained in limited measure, partially such installations are shut down.

Point 1 of day report 24.10.1942

Firing volume again high in the Stalingrad area. Coverage possible from Army stocks. Low firing in other sectors.
Tight fuel situation at the troop continues. Improvement to be expected with arrival of the columns.
The drying of the roads continues. With continuance of the dry weather, the Army anticipates again the start of a regular column traffic.
The horse situation has worsened again. The loss of horses by lack of fodder is increasing. It is urgently necessary to immediately strenghten the supply in fodder so that the entitled rations can be issued regularly. "

By defensive fighting at IV AK the firing volume was higher than on earlier days.
Beginning deficiency in 8 cm mortar grenades and ammo for 21 cm mortars. Inflow of ammo trains does not correspond to volume of firing .
Allocations of fuel are not sufficient to put aside the needed quantities for carrying out a winter supply besides the most necessary supply drives.

"Telex
From AOK6/OQu to 1)OKH /Gen.OQu
2) Command center B OKH/Gen.Qu
3) chief of staff AOK 6

Point 1 of day report 27.10.1942

Firing of ammo as on earlier days. In the next days the same level of firing is anticipated.
Increasing lack of ammo for 8 cm grenades, mortars and 10 cm Kan 18.
Fuel situation still tight. The Army urgently requests increased inflow of fuel trains.
The arrival of supply trains does not correspond to the need. Above all, the inflow of ammo trains must be increased because otherwise the still expected firing cannot be covered anymore."
