"Telex
From AOK6/OQu to OKH /Gen.OQu
Command center B OKH/Gen.Qu

Day report 29.7.1942

Supply situation

High firing at LI AK, VIII AK and XXIV Pz AK . More specific reports on firing numbers cannot be given. It can however with certainty be assumed that the firing bumbers are far higher than the allocations of l.F.H. ammo on 28.7 so that a further decrease of the stocks of the 1.Ausstattung is expected.
In the evening of 29.7 1260 shots l.F.H. each were allocated to VIII AK and XIV Pz AK. . For the LI AK delivery of 3000 shots l.F.H. by air transport is promised for the morning of 30.7. A considerable improvement of the ammo sitiation to ca 50-55% of the 1.Ausstattung is therefore only expected at LI AK while the quantities allocated to VIII AK and XIV Pz AK represent only 10% of the 1.Austt.
AOK 6 anticipates for the 30.7 a delivery of ca 2000 shots l.F.H and for 31.7 ca 300 to (mixed l.F.H. 16 and l.F.H. 18). At the same rate of firing these quantities will makeshiftly cover the firing. A substantial filling up of the 1.Ausstattung is not anticipated given the expected firing rate.
In the other ammo types a tangible shortage has not occurred until now. The shortage of KwK ammo could be remedied by the arrival of 280 to at 28.7.
AOK 6 requests to bring forward ammo to Bokowskaja in the next days by an increased use of the Grossttransportraum of the Command center to improve the ammo situation, especially in l.F.H. ammo.
Only negigible quantities of fuel were delivered at Bokowskaja on 29.7 , because for 2 days the whole available supply column capacity was used exclusively for ammo transport. The AOK believes it can keep itself above water until 31.7 with the actual stated stocks.

" AOK6/OQu Nr 3370/42

To OKH/GenStab des Heeres/Gen/OQu

.....
To the supply situation on the basis of the developments of the situation on 28/29.7 the AOK reports supplementary:

1) At the meeting on the Schelistowka airfield between the delegates of the OKH/Gen.OQu-OQu command center B - OQu /AOK6 at 20.7 whose purpose was:
a) to remedy the then strong fuel crisis of 6th Army and
b) create the foundations for the further supply of the Army until the set objective Stalingrad,

the OQu/AOK 6 had indicated the to be expected high ammo demand in 8 days at the fighting on the Don.

It was agreed that after getting AOK 6 going again with fuel, to switch in the delivery of supply goods to a ratio ammo to fuel of 3:1
Meantime only a minimum of the needed ammo has been brought up.

2) The delivery by rail to Millerowo which started on 29.7 will only have an impact on the troop in the most favourable case at 5.8

3)The Army now stands in a dangerous ammo crisis.
Only an immediate interim solution as the OKH/GenQu found in the fuel crisis, can bridge the dry spell until 05.8 .

4) Until then the AOK will get part of the supply goods= 1/4 of the need with own means as before over 600 km from the Charkov base. The other part = 3/4 of the need is not covered until now.

5) AOK believes that a certain continuity in the deployment of the Grosstransportraum is the main prerequisite for the future supply and for a preventing of strong suplly crisises. The supply of the Army until 17.7 ,especially however the supply of the XIV Pz AK until the lower course of the Don, eastward of Rostov , could only be performed by a stubbornly persevered continuity in the supply management, while between 18.7 and 28.7 the flexible management of the supply adapted to the situation by the delegate of the OKH/Gen.Qu helped to clear somewhat the supply crisises."

Day report 31.7.1942

Supply situation

Further high firing at the forward corps. The high shortage in l.F.H. ammo could not yet be resolved. The Grosstransportraum columns from the command center with lF.H ammo have not yet arrived in Bokowskaja.
In the other ammo categories 300 to has arrived in Bokowskaja which can have an effect at the troop in 2-3 days.
The Army expects heavy fighting in the next few days , especially at XIV PzAK and VIII AK and a corresponding high consumption .
For the quicker relief the Army will pull forward a few l.F.H. columns of the command center over Bokowskaja to the east.
The fuel situation is tight again. The expected fuel trains for the 31.7 in Millerowo have not yet arrived yet so that the feeding in further diminishes.
At the troop the stocks have dropped again under 1 VS. , at XVII AK almost nothing is available anymore.
The full combat power of the divisions is only guaranteed when:
1) sufficient lF.H. ammo is supplied
2) the troop again disposes of 2 VS

According to a comunication by Oberstlt i.G Pollex a delay in the bringing up of the supply trains happened because the transshipment Ostrogoshsk -Jewdakowo did not take place in the promised time.

AOK 6 reports that therefore the switching from Kupjansk to Millerowo on the orders of the command center took place too quickly , and the Army supply columns currently waited in vain for supply goods in Millerowo.
The supply situation the relaxing of which was hoped for according to the report 30.7 to Gen/OQu , experienced through this a further deterioration "

Day report 1.8.1942

Supply situation

The fuel crisis has become worse. Because of strong rain in the rear area the transshipment Ostrogosh-Jewdakowo was impossible so that on 1.8 fuel trains did not arrive in Millerowo. The supply columns moving up from Kupjansk also were stuck because of bad weather.
The Army can only expect low quantities of fuel and ammo by land in the next two days. The on midday 1.8 planned air transport of 400 to for the 2.8 has diminished on 1.8 evening to 200 to. The deficiency of fuel and ammo because of the weather situation which is in delivery on railroad and land over hundreds of kilometers can only be bridged over several days by a decisive measure of air transport of greater amounts.
Ammo stocks in l.F.H. :
At the troop 30-50% , delivery from AML Bokowskaja
For 17 AK 1360 shots l.F.H. on 1.8
For 14 Pz AK 2600 shots l.F.H. on 1.8
For 51 AK 1260 shots l.F.H. on 2.8
S.Inf ammo 75 % Besides s.J.G. 50% . At 14 Pz AK 10 % s.J.G. "

The troop is supplied for ca 2-3 days inclusive the supply from the land. By the arrival of rations in Bokowskaja the supply will be secured for further 2 days after delivery to the troops. Even these quantities need to be fetched from supply base Charkov because there are no food stocks in Millerowo.
Horse feed has to be taken for 90% from the land, because oats can only be provided in small quantities. Because the fodder taken from the land is almost entirely green feed and only in small quantities raw and hard fodder, the horses are not able to endure the march performances demanded . A higher loss is therefore to be anticipated.

Supply situation

The situation in l.F.H. will have improved a bit by 3.8 in the evening by the arrival of 7300 shots by air transport on 2.8 and the 6000 shots in delivery to the troop .
The equipment at the troop can then be:
LI AK 40%
XIV Pz AK 35%
VIII AK 30%
at the same rate of firing

The fuel situation will already lead to the first disruptions on 3.8 . LIAK, VIII AK , XIV Pz corpscannot move their supply columns anymore from 3.8 in the evening from lack of fuel. Partially, even the fetching of the expected delivery of ammo by air transport not possible anymore without at the same time landing fuel.
The delivery of fuel by air on 3.8 could not be promised.
The requested 50 cbm could not be delivered on 2.8. AOK requests urgently to absolutely carry the in itself low quantities of fuel applied for
because the fuel situation of the army does not allow even the deficiency of small quantities.
In Millerowo still no supply goods have arrived."

Wit the arrival of fuel trains in Millerowo at the same level the fuel situation can have improved up to the evening of 6.8 so far that the divisions deployed forward will dispose of 1 to 1 1/2 VS. Supply troops and rear services remain at 0,3- 0,5 VS and are therefore only limited mobile.
In V.St.P Millerowo the unloading and transhipment railway station, difficulties have arisen with italian units. It is requested to direct the italian units to another point -for example Kantemirowka- because otherwise major disruptions which could disturb the delivery of supply goods are to be expected in the decisive stage of supply. The Army has rejected the demand to vacate accomodations and hangars in favour of the italian armed forces."
