Battle for Königsberg

Post by Richard Murphy » 28 Jul 2002 12:48

Can anyone give me a complete OoB for the forces defending Königsberg in April 1945?
I have identified elements of the 5th Pz. Div. (Anyone know which elements?), 56th Inf, 61st VG, 69th Inf, 367th Inf, 548th VG and 561st VG. Were there any other major units (Such as Korps etc) there?

Regards from the Park,

Rich

Hi Richard

The CO of Konigsberg O.Lasch wrote a book called "So fiel Konigsberg" in 1944 and published in Stuttgart.

Richard :

for April 6-10, 1945....

In the north of the city.

NW 561 V.G north- 548 V.G. to N.E. were 367th and 61st.
In the S.W. was the Polizei-kampfgruppe Schubert.
Directly south was the 69th.

To the west of the city proper 1st Infantrie Division had gone through the city and was directly west with the 5th Panzer just to their south. To the NW of the 1st was the 58th and above them more to the n.W. was the 93rd. The 58th, 1st and 5th Panzer were under XXVI Korps control.

Thanks very much Eric.

Andy, are you sure that date of Lasch's book is right? Why was he writing about the city before the battle?
