Abwehr in Stalingrad
Abwehr in Stalingrad
Where there any Abwehr or Brandenburgers in Stalingrad 1942-1943? OR any other undercover german agents?
The 1st Company of I Brandenburg Ballalion was active (with 29th Motorised Infantery Division) on the Volga south of Stalingrad at the end of the summer 1942. This company was repatriated to Freiburg in October. Source: pag. 307 of Brandenburg Division by Eric Lefevre.
Don't know about other Brandenburg units (have to look better in some books).

I know there were German undercover agents that were involved with sabotage action in many parts of the Soviet Union but I am not sure about Staiingrad.

Ah, so you say the Soviets paranoidal hunt after spies and saboteurs, often mainly to fill up the quotas, did after all, had some substance?Edward L. Sure, Germany was fighting the largest war in history without resorting to any intelligence activity. Speaking seriously, ferrying secret agents or undercover groups across the front was practiced by both sides on a nearly industrial scale.

Pre-war it wasn't as if there wasn't a reason to be paranoid about foreign efforts to penetrate the USSR either:
