Of course the Baltic States could have resisted the Soviet Union, but unless they were in a wider alliance they had no realistic prospect of success.

In 1939 they did not even have a military alliance amongst themselves, let alone with anyone else.

The Baltics, unlike Ukraine, are safe nowadays because they are part of NATO. Ukraine is vulnerable because it is not part of any alliance system.
