I am looking for , war diaries, reports, books about the Forteress of Cholm. Is anyone gets references about this. It seems to me that this battle is very known but informations are finally rares. Maybe I am wrong. Thanks for your lights.

Bonjour,

si je me souviens bien il y a un roman qui s'appele 'Siege' qui se déroule à Cholm et Demyansk. Il y a bcp d'info dedans mais c'est pas vraiment un oeuvre de référence.

Hello,
If I remember correctly, there was a novel called 'Siege' which was taking place in Cholm et Demyansk. There was a lot of info in it, but it isn't really a work of reference.

Yes, i made the mistake to buy it. I belived that it was an historic book. But maybe it is a good roman. I have a list of the nara but I don't find any divisions involved in the battle. There is just a book - serious - which had been wrote by a doctor who where here. Thanks for your reply.

Don't know if that helps , but I have not more :

Kampfgruppe Scherer consisted of :

- parts of 123.ID
- parts of 218.ID ( think it was IR 386 )
- Jagdkommando 8
- III./Luftwaffenfeldregiment 1
- ReservepolizeiBtl. 65
- and some Kraftfahrer from the Kriegsmarine

Thnaks for your answer. I didn't know the nummer of the PolizeiBTl. It comes well because I have a picture of one man from this unity. (meindl is finished).

Dear moderator,

sorry about that. :( Won't happen again.

BTW, you missed out the negative particle when you translated the text, thus implying that this rather stodgy book is a reference work which it certainly isn't. :) I would also say 'in future' myself in English, but perhaps that's a personal style thing.

Didier,

it's certainly not much of a novel either, although I think that somewhere there's a list of the units involved.

This operation is perfectly described in printed sources. For example, in documentary Shaposhnikov-research . To find this book it is possible.

Great Thanx.
I've found original german book (1943):
Kampfgruppe Sherer. 105 Tage eingeschlossen. It's mainly photoalbum, but very qualitative.

I merged a new thread on Cholm into the existing one to keep discussion focussed.

All the best

Andreas
