Dodecanese attack early 1940 ?

#1

Post by ladc51 » 14 Nov 2017, 14:34

I just read in Admiral Godfroy memories that the Allied had planned before june 1940 an invasion of the Dodecanese. I can find a lot of information regarding the Dodécanèse campaign in 43, or regarding British plans and attempts in 41, but nothing regarding early plans in 39-40.

I am looking for references and more detailled information regarding those plans, and the reason they were abandonned.

I am also interested in the italian forces in the Dodécanèse early 1940 and the reinforcements that coul be sent from Mainland Italy...

For the Italian forces in the Dodecanese in 1940, you can begin with this (for 10 June):
Army: http://www.niehorster.org/019_italy/40- ... _egeo.html
Navy: http://www.niehorster.org/019_italy/40- ... egean.html

Hello Laurent
I never heard about french plans to invade the Dodécanèse in 1940.
French foreign policy had some ideas about the Balkans, Turkey and the Dodécanèse since 1938, but they were never concretised:

Sorry but I have no more information and very sorry for my bad english but it's not my native language.
Kindly regards from Belgium
