Was there ever a full battalion of Panzer Grenadiers with SPW's in North Africa?

Not until 10 PD was shipped to Tunisia.

Thanks, so 10 PzD had a battalion with SPW, i have seen quite a bit of photos from Tunisia and i didn't saw many SPW and those were specialist: radio, medical . I have a doc file with PzD 10 TOE but it is unreliable, it says they had no Pz II - when Pz II went to Africa with them.


Edit it says II Bn of 69 PzGR had 19 SPW in each 5-8 komp. 9 in Stab, plus an IG 9.kompanie but it seems no SPW there.

There a re many well known photographs of SdKfz 251's in service with 10 PD in Tunisia along with captured US half tracks.

The II./69. Panzergrenadier-Regiment was the division’s “gepanzerte” Panzergrenadier-Bataillon, but the battalion was reorganized as a motorized battalion prior to shipment to Tunisia, leaving it’s SPWs behind in France. The 69. Panzergrenadier-Regiment, and the 86. Panzergrenadier-Regiment were organized using “Continental” KStN, not "Afrika" KStN. The SPWs were left behind due to shipping weight concerns, however, the division's 10. Kradschützen-Bataillon was equipped with M/Cs, A/Cs, and one schwadron with SdKfz 250s and 251s. The division's 49. Pioniere-Bataillon also had one “gepanzerte” company equipped with SdKfz 251s.
