Afrika Korps self-propelled AT prior to July '42?

Hi all,

I was just reading about British General Staff deliberations in July 1942 about building their own self-propelled guns and one of the things noted was the use by the Germans of self propelled AT guns to guard their flanks.

I think this has to be from the war in North Africa so it got me to wondering which SPGs they would be talking about.

I was just reading on this forum about Sonderverband 288 and its three Stugs - on the other hand, I would hesitate to refer to a vehicle with the short barreled 75mm as an anti-tank weapon.

And I just learned that the Italians were using the Semovente da 75/18 with good effect at Gazala.

Would the Germans or Italians have had anything else at this point? Maybe half-tracks or wheeled? I know that Soviet 76mm AT guns on a truck or halftrack were used but I don't remember when.

They also had the three experimental half-tracks with 7.5cm guns from January 1942, they arrived together with the Dianas. Later in 1942 also 15cm sIG on Hotchkiss chassis.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Ah yes. AT guns. Scuttles away. Although I do have one instance where a Matilda was taken apart by what was either a 15cm GPF or a 21cm mortar outside Tobruk.

The experimentals were AT though.
