This "dispute seems to have been solved long ago. But I have just found this site,
My father was aboard at the time, refer to my website Glenroy .freeservers.com.
There are photos and story of the damage
It was an Italian Plane. sm 79 There is a post which gives the Unit and pilots name.
The figher plane(S) refered to was a Grumman martlet and in actual fact because it was so rare to have fighter escort it destracted the lookouts, Tehy were travelling close to the coast to avoid u boats ( it was too shallow, But that meant they had no time to react to the planes suddenly appearing over the hill on the caost.
The guns only opened up AFTER they plan had dropped the tin fish.
Too late. My father says that had it been a much heavier U boat torpedo they would have had it.
Its interesting to hear that the planes returned damaged anyway.

Hi DiliDili wrote:Glad i helped. Can you say for how long 6./KG26 operated in Med in this deployment?
Afraid I can't tell you that.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Not a dispute, just a check on a source.
Thanks for the very interesting information.

Hello,
the torpedoing of Glenroy, off Marsa Matruh on Nov., 23rd, 1941, by S79 of 281^ Squadriglia Aerosiluranti, is confirmed by Francesco Mattesini in the article "I successi degli aerosiluranti italiani e tedeschi in Mediterraneo nella 2ª guerra mondiale", published on the Bollettino d'Archivio dell'Ufficio Storico della Marina Militare Italina (the quarterly of the Historical Branch of Italian Navy), March, 2002.

Re: HMS Glenroy - November 1941 torpedo hit
Hi I know this is very late to the party.
I’ve been searching for info on the glenroy as I’ve came across a family member who received distinguished service medal for the 11/11/41 on the glenroy. From what I can see this was to do with the torpedo attack on this ship.
I have his naval record and that date was for the London gazette dispatch.
